Are the American express and visa cards, sold at 7-11, cvs, and other places, debit cards?

Can I buy a $100 american express card or visa card and use it to buy something online? Are they debit cards?

1. They are credit cards. But they are prepaid. You pay the money then you can use up the balance until it is all gone. Use it online or in stores. A debit card is tied to a bank account. The money is deducted from your savings. So a visa card is not a debit card because the bank is not involved..
2. yes you can providing you first activate the card (go to that cards website and entering your details including your name and address (otherwise the credit verification system will declind the card without that info)
